WELCOME TO THE APIARY!

At McWethy’s Tavern, the honey you enjoy is proudly produced under The Farm at Mistwood Golf Club, our agricultural arm that reflects the same commitment to quality and sustainability found throughout all of JBM Hospitality’s properties. Our on-site apiary is one of the hidden gems of the property, home to 10 thriving honey bee hives that consistently produce abundant, high-quality harvests under the care of our “Bee Man,” Pete.

The Arrival

When we set out to produce our own honey at Mistwood Golf Club and McWethy’s Tavern, we knew it had to be truly local. Each season our bees gather nectar from surrounding wildflowers and fall blooms like goldenrod and ragweed, creating a rich honey filled with the natural pollens of our land. In December of 2021, Pete “The Bee Man” and Kim Kulton brought thousands of bees to Mistwood, carefully settling the hives for winter and beginning what would grow into our thriving on-site apiary.

The Harvest

Harvesting honey is still done the traditional way. Pete gently smokes the hives to calm the bees, removes frames filled with capped honeycomb, trims the wax by hand, and spins the frames in a centrifuge to extract the honey. The result is pure Mistwood honey that goes straight into jars and onto our Tavern shelves.

The Honey

Our honey is pure, raw, and unfiltered, shaped entirely by the flowers and wild plants surrounding Mistwood Golf Club. Pete “The Bee Man” explains what makes our honey so unique, from the local pollens the bees collect to the seasonal benefits many guests enjoy. This naturally sweet honey is now used across the property, adding depth to select dishes and handcrafted cocktails while also being available in jars at the Tavern.
